DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) wybrała potencjalnego następcę słynnego HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), który służył dzielnie od 1984 roku. Jest nim wybrany ze 150 propozycji XC2V FLYPMode od Local Motors (Experimental Crowd-Derived Combat-support Vehicle), który powstał w zaledwie 14 tygodni. W ciągu najbliższych pięciu lat DARPA zainwestuje w nowoczesne systemy obronne bilion dolarów, a XC2V, który jest na razie tylko konceptem, zostanie doprowadzony do pełnej mocy operacyjnej.
